Approach to Therapy

Liz brings a broad knowledge and range of skills to therapy, gained from working as a generalist in public service and non-profit settings for many years. She does not believe in a "one size fits all" method, as therapy is highly individual and deeply personal. Liz's approach to therapy is rooted in systems work and person-in-environment models, strengths-based, client-centered, and trauma-focused.

Her clinical focus is on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT/Trauma-Focused CBT) and the incorporation of Mindfulness into CBT practice. Other types of therapy utilized as needed are narrative therapy and Solution-Focused Brief therapy (when working through a specific short-term problem or concern). Liz occasionally incorporates skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Liz specializes in treating teens and young adults for common mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, trauma, life changes/adjustment, grief and loss, emotional regulation, and social skill building. Liz is LGBTQIA2S+ and neurodivergent affirming. Liz brings a guiding focus on social justice issues around racial equity and systems of oppression.

Many of Liz's clients see improvements in functioning after a few months of regular sessions with the client's commitment to continued learning outside of therapy.
